Bovilla Lake, Dajti or Krujë?
Three day trips from Tirana compared: Bovilla's lake and climb, the Dajti cable car (closed Tuesdays) and Krujë's castle and bazaar, plus the tours that combine them.
Choose Bovilla Lake for landscape, Krujë for history and Dajti for the easiest view over Tirana. Bovilla is a half day: a rough drive, a short steep climb and a turquoise reservoir in a canyon. Krujë, about 37 km by road, is the hilltop town with the castle, the Skanderbeg Museum and the old bazaar. Dajti is a cable car from the edge of the city up the mountain behind it. If you only have one day, Bovilla is the one you cannot easily do on your own; if you have a full day, a small-group tour combines it with either of the others.

Bovilla Lake: the landscape trip
The reason Bovilla tours sell is the view from the Balcony above the dam: water between pale cliffs, the ridge of Gamti beside it. The trip is short but not easy to do independently, because there is no public transport and the last stretch of road is a potholed track. Shared tours run from €23 with pickup and entrance fees included (checked October 2026). The Gamti hike guide covers the climb.
Dajti Ekspres: the easy view
The Dajti Ekspres cable car starts on the eastern edge of Tirana, 4.7 km from Skanderbeg Square, and rides up Mount Dajti in about 15 minutes, with restaurants, short walks and an adventure park at the top. It runs six days a week and is closed on Tuesdays (unless Tuesday is a public holiday), from 09:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and to 18:30 at weekends on the operator’s current timetable. Ticket prices are posted at the lower station rather than online; the small-group Bovilla and Dajti tour lists the return ticket at 1,400 lek (about €14), paid on the day. You do not need a tour for Dajti: a city bus or a short taxi ride gets you to the lower station. If you want it organised, Dajti Cable Car, Park and Shëngjergj Waterfall runs from €35.
Krujë: the history trip
Krujë sits at about 600 m on the slopes of Mount Krujë, about 37 km from central Tirana by road. Its castle is the symbol of Skanderbeg’s 15th-century resistance to the Ottoman Empire, the Skanderbeg Museum (founded 1982) stands in the castle grounds, and the old bazaar below the castle is lined with craft and souvenir shops. Above the town is the Bektashi shrine of Sari Salltik. Krujë is the easiest of the three to combine with travel north, and the most-reviewed Krujë tour, Kruja Castle, Old Bazaar and Sari Salltik View from Tirana, starts at €25, rated 4.8 from 3,922 reviews.

Doing two in one day
Both combinations exist as small-group tours from Tirana, and both make a long but good day:
Pick the day that fits:
Bovilla Lake & Gamti day tour
The cheapest way to the lake, back by mid-afternoon, so Dajti or Krujë fits on another day.
Check dates →Bovilla hike and Krujë
Up to 8 people: the Gamti climb in the morning, Krujë's bazaar and castle after lunch.
See the Krujë day →Bovilla and the Dajti cable car
Up to 8 people: the Balcony hike, then the cable car up Dajti. Not on Tuesdays, when it is closed.
See the Dajti day →Prices, ratings and review counts from GetYourGuide, checked October 2026. Operators price by season, so treat them as the shape of the market, not a quote.
On the Krujë day, museum fees in Krujë are extra; on the Dajti day, the cable car ticket is. Both are small groups (up to 8 on the shared option), with private options for up to four on the Krujë day.
How many days in Tirana is enough?
Two full days covers the city and one trip out; three lets you do Bovilla, Krujë and Dajti without rushing, or the city plus one combined small-group day. Most Bovilla tours are back at your hotel by mid-afternoon, which leaves the evening for Blloku; where to stay in Tirana helps with the base.
